We are a UK-based indie synth-pop band featuring Sarah Heeley (lyrics/vocals) and Matt Culpin (music/production). We formed in 2006 and have gained a loyal, international fan base. Our early albums ‘53 Degrees North’ and ‘Wired’, topped album and download charts across Europe and won us prestigious live dates including supporting Recoil / Alan Wilder (ex-Depeche Mode) and Gary Numan at Postbahnhof, Berlin.

Jan 2026Hello… It’s been a while. Happy New Year.We’ve got some news.First up, a live date:
On Saturday, 25th April, we’ll be appearing as guests of Tubeway Days (the Gary Numan tribute band) at Norwich Arts Centre.
Tickets are available now.This will be our first show since Factory 251 in Manchester, 6th March 2020. Something happened just after that… can’t quite remember what.Alongside the gig, we’re writing new music. With 2026 marking 20 years of Northern Kind, it felt like the right time to get back in the studio and make some new tracks.Over the coming months, we'll be sharing a few videos about the writing process, the studio, and, if you’re into that sort of thing, some of the synth and production details too.Hope to see some familiar faces in April.

Spotify, Credible Sexy Unit & Update.Our distributor has informed us that due to unusual bot activity, our third album has been removed from all digital stores. This action was taken after Spotify flagged one specific track for an abnormally high number of streams. Unfortunately, we have no control over this decision, and removing the album solely from Spotify is not an option.However, the album remains available for purchase as a physical CD from our store, and we will soon be adding it to our Bandcamp store as well. We appreciate your support and will update you as soon as it becomes available digitally again.New song ideas are starting to flow between Matt and Sarah once again. It’s very early days, but the creative spark is definitely back. Matt will be sharing snippets of the journey and behind-the-scenes moments on his YouTube channel —so stay tuned for a glimpse into what’s brewing!

What's Going On?
After a five-year hiatus, we came back with a flurry of activity in 2019 and 2020 when we released two singles, an e.p. 'Düh' and played several live dates. We've now begun work on our 4th album and hope to release this in 2023.We'll be posting updates to Youtube so look out for these.
